  • Celebrating our love of Maths as part of Maths Week England

    Published 18/11/22

At Stanton children enjoy the structured approach to learning through exploration in Maths.

Lessons begin with a problem, question or thought and children investigate.  This part is always fun, and we love discussing what we notice.

The teacher then draws the class together, having carefully selected some ideas from the children themselves. The skill then is to guide the children to ensure the concepts have been understood before they take on their independent work for the lesson.

The approach gives each child the change to succeed in maths which leads to enjoyment.

  • Library Open Lunch Hour

    Published 06/11/22

This week we enjoyed our first open library lunch hour of Term 2. At the end of last term, Mrs Anderson and our team of librarians met to discuss how to make the most of our library space and welcome everyone in to enjoy the wonderful books we stock, including new books from our ‘Just Arrived’ section. The librarians had lots of fantastic ideas, including providing book themed activities during open lunch hour. This week, the children enjoyed bookmark making and then used their bookmark to enjoy a book from the library. Our librarians were on hand to make book recommendations and share books with our younger library visitors. Look out for new activities run by your school librarians, every Wednesday lunchtime! 📚

  • National Poetry Week Celebrations

    Published 30/10/22

During Term 1 we celebrated National Poetry Day as a whole school, immersing the children in the poetry wonders of Michael Rosen. In class we explored, recited, performed and wrote our own poetry based on Michael Rosen’s entertaining works of art. We were blown away by the number of children across the school who took part in our Poetry Off by Heart competition and would like to say a huge congratulations to our finalists and of course, our overall winner for his emotive performance of ‘Hot Food’. A school of wonderful poets in the making! #motivateeducatenurture #NationalPoetryDay #michaelrosen

  • Carnival Time at SSQ

    Published 14/09/22

Congratulations SSQ on your fantastic float ‘Celebrating Reading’ - 2nd place Malmesbury Carnival

Wow! It’s been an amazing couple of days with the whole school coming together to learn about and celebrate carnival time. As a school that is passionate about reading, we enjoyed reading Bisa’s Carnival, then used ideas from the book as stimulus for some creative carnival writing. We also took part in very loud and large samba workshop, made carnival cakes to sell and then the super fun finale - the procession at Malmesbury Carnival.

Thank you to the parents & wider community for supporting and the amazing costumes, the staff - especially Mrs Anderson and family for organising and providing the float, and finally the children for representing the school with such enthusiasm.
