Discovering Together

Habitat Heroes

Today, Amazon and Rhine class had a fun afternoon exploring and improving habitats at school.

This afternoon, led by Mrs Winterburn, Amazon and Rhine class had a super time exploring the different habitats at Stanton and making sure that species had enough to eat.

They started the afternoon with some pond dipping in our icy pond area.  Due to the season, there weren't as many things living in the pond as they expected, so we will repeat this experiment later in the year and compare our results.

After this, the children worked together to make some bird feeders, using pine cones, logs, trees, lard and bird seeds.  These should help to keep the birds fuelled on cold days when food is scarce.

Well done Amazon and Rhine for improving our school grounds!  Why not try making bored feeders at home to help your local wildlife?
